SBI Q1 Results: Net Profit Jumps 10.2% YoY to ₹21,121 Crore, NII Up 15%

State Bank of India (SBI) Q1 Results: State Bank of India reported a strong set of financial results for the first quarter of FY27, with standalone net profit rising 10.23% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹21,121.22 crore. The country’s largest public sector bank also reported healthy growth in interest income, advances and deposits, while asset quality remained under control.

SBI’s Q1FY27 results come against the backdrop of continued credit growth in the banking sector. The lender’s gross advances increased 18.6% YoY, while its total business crossed the ₹110 lakh crore milestone during the quarter.

SBI Q1 Results: Net Profit Rises 10.23% to ₹21,121 Crore

State Bank of India reported a standalone net profit of ₹21,121.22 crore in Q1FY27, compared with ₹19,160.44 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

The latest SBI Q1 result represents a 10.23% year-on-year increase in net profit, highlighting continued earnings momentum for the country’s largest lender.

The bank also reported strong growth in interest income. Interest income stood at ₹46,992 crore, compared with ₹40,907 crore a year earlier, representing an increase of 14.88% YoY.

The improvement in earnings came alongside strong loan growth and expansion in the bank’s overall business, although higher provisions and an increase in fresh slippages remained areas investors will watch closely.

SBI Q1FY27 Results: Interest Income and NIM

SBI’s net interest margin remained relatively stable during the quarter. The domestic net interest margin (NIM) stood at 3%, while the whole-bank NIM increased by 5 basis points sequentially to 2.86%.

The improvement in the whole-bank NIM on a quarter-on-quarter basis indicates that the bank was able to maintain reasonable profitability from its core lending operations despite changing interest-rate and funding conditions.

For investors tracking SBI Q1 results, NIM remains an important metric because it provides an indication of the spread between the interest earned on loans and investments and the interest paid on deposits and other borrowings.

SBI Asset Quality Improves in Q1FY27

One of the positive aspects of the SBI Q1FY27 results was the continued improvement in reported asset-quality ratios.

SBI’s gross non-performing asset (GNPA) ratio declined to 1.47% in the June quarter from 1.49% in the March quarter. The net NPA ratio also improved to 0.38%, compared with 0.39% in the previous quarter.

The numbers indicate that the bank continued to maintain control over stressed assets despite rapid growth in its loan book.

However, fresh slippages increased during the quarter. SBI reported fresh slippages of ₹7,359 crore, compared with ₹5,548 crore in the previous quarter. Consequently, the slippage ratio increased to 0.57% from 0.47% sequentially.

This is an important factor for investors to monitor in subsequent quarters as the bank continues to expand its advances.

SBI Provisions and Credit Cost

SBI’s provisions increased during Q1FY27. Provisions stood at ₹5,047 crore, compared with ₹2,872 crore in the preceding quarter and ₹4,759 crore in the same quarter last year.

Despite the higher provisions, the bank’s credit cost remained stable sequentially at 0.27%. It was also lower than the 0.47% reported in the year-ago quarter.

The combination of improving headline asset-quality ratios and relatively controlled credit costs remains a key positive for SBI’s earnings profile.

SBI Business Growth: Total Business Crosses ₹110 Lakh Crore

SBI continued to record strong business growth during the June quarter, with its total business crossing ₹110 lakh crore.

Total deposits increased 9.73% YoY to ₹60.06 lakh crore, while advances crossed the ₹50 lakh crore mark.

The bank’s CASA deposits increased 9.3% to ₹22.61 lakh crore, with the CASA ratio standing at 39.24% as of June 30.

A strong deposit franchise is particularly important for a large bank such as SBI because the cost and stability of deposits directly influence lending margins and profitability.

SBI Loan Growth: Retail, Corporate, SME and Agriculture Advances

SBI’s loan book continued to expand across several major segments.

Domestic advances increased 18.15% YoY, reflecting broad-based credit demand.

Retail personal loans grew 15.15%, while corporate advances increased 18.05% during the quarter.

The strongest growth came from the SME and agriculture segments. SME advances increased 22.33%, while agriculture loans rose 25.43% YoY.

Foreign-office advances also increased 21.38% in rupee terms.

The broad-based nature of credit growth is significant because it reduces the bank’s dependence on a single lending segment and supports overall business expansion.

SBI Q1 Results: Profitability and Capital Position

SBI reported a return on assets (ROA) of 1.11% and a return on equity (ROE) of 17.87% for the quarter.

The bank also strengthened its capital position. Its capital-to-risk weighted assets ratio (CRAR) improved to 15.67%, compared with 14.63% a year ago.

The Common Equity Tier-1 (CET-1) ratio increased to 12.89% from 11.10%, while the Tier-1 capital ratio rose to 13.90% from 12.45%.

A stronger capital position provides SBI with additional capacity to support future loan growth while maintaining regulatory capital buffers.

The bank’s provision coverage ratio (PCR), excluding advances under collection accounts (AUCA), stood at 74.20%. Including AUCA, the PCR stood at 91.82%.

SBI Digital Banking: YONO Adoption Continues to Grow

Digital banking remained another important area of growth for SBI during Q1FY27.

More than 64% of new savings bank accounts were opened through the bank’s YONO platform during the quarter.

At the same time, transactions conducted through alternate digital channels increased to approximately 98.8%, compared with 98.6% in the corresponding quarter last year.

The continued shift towards digital channels reflects SBI’s efforts to reduce dependence on traditional banking processes and expand the use of its digital ecosystem.

SBI Share Price Today: Key Levels to Watch

SBI share price today opened at ₹1,081.95 per share on the BSE. During the trading session, the stock touched an intraday high of ₹1,124.40 and an intraday low of ₹1,075.30.

Technical Analyst – Equity & Derivatives at Angel One, Hitesh Rathi, said SBI’s technical structure remains largely range-bound, indicating uncertainty over the stock’s near-term direction.

According to Rathi, the ₹1,115–₹1,135 zone is an important immediate resistance area. A decisive move above this range could signal an exit from the current consolidation phase and potentially indicate the beginning of a sustained uptrend.

On the downside, the ₹940–₹950 range represents an important buying-interest zone, while the ₹1,200–₹1,220 zone remains a significant overhead supply area.

Until a decisive breakout occurs, the stock could continue to remain in a sideways trading range.

What SBI Q1 Results Mean for Investors

The SBI Q1FY27 results present a mixed but broadly positive picture.

On the positive side, net profit increased more than 10%, interest income grew nearly 15%, advances expanded strongly and total business crossed ₹110 lakh crore. The bank also reported improvement in GNPA and net NPA ratios, while its capital position strengthened significantly.

At the same time, the increase in fresh slippages and provisions deserves attention. Investors will likely monitor whether the higher credit growth translates into sustained earnings without putting pressure on asset quality.

From a stock-market perspective, SBI’s Q1 results provide a strong fundamental backdrop, but the near-term share-price direction may continue to depend on technical levels, broader banking-sector sentiment and market expectations.

For SBI shareholders and prospective investors, the key factors to monitor in coming quarters will be loan growth, net interest margin, deposit growth, fresh slippages, credit cost, asset quality and profitability.

SBI Q1 Results FY27: The Bottom Line

SBI’s first-quarter FY27 performance shows that the bank entered the new financial year with strong business momentum. The 10.23% rise in net profit to ₹21,121 crore, nearly 15% growth in interest income and 18.6% growth in gross advances underline the scale of the bank’s current expansion.

Improving GNPA and net NPA ratios, combined with a stronger capital position, are additional positives. However, the increase in fresh slippages means asset quality will remain an important metric to track.

For the stock, the ₹1,115–₹1,135 resistance zone highlighted by the technical analysis could be crucial in determining the near-term direction. Investors should consider the company’s complete financial performance, valuation, market conditions and their own risk profile before making investment decisions.
